Philip Cree Turner: [Heath 1951–1956]

Philip Turner of San Diego, California passed away on at the age of 81. He was born on in Halifax, United Kingdom where he grew up as a WWII baby while his father was away fighting in Asia. He was raised by his mother and a great aunt. His younger brother, Richard, still lives in Halifax along with his children, Rebecca and Jack.

Upon graduation from Heath Grammar School, Philip moved to Canada in pursuit of a career as an actuary. He met his future wife, Carol Ann, in Kitchener, Ontario and they soon married. Accepting a job offer in Philadelphia, the couple moved to the United States where they became citizens and raised five children together.

Philip worked for forty years as an actuary with various companies, but he will be remembered by his friends and family as the consummate family man. He was devoted to his wife and children and loved to travel in the United States and throughout Europe. He was proficient in languages and was intellectually curious – having folders in his office dedicated to all sorts of research he was doing! He became interested in religion as a teenager and turned quite a few heads when he became a devout Catholic in his native Anglican country. He was also determined to live in California, having taken several actuarial positions throughout California during his career and eventually landing in San Diego, which was his home for the last thirty years. He had been active at St. James Catholic Church in Solana Beach for those years.

He is preceded in death by his wife, Carol Ann, who passed away in 2019. He is survived by his five children, Angela (Ray) Roanoke, Virginia, Paul (Ingrid) of Frankfort, Michigan, Jennifer (John) of Zionsville, Indiana, Melissa and Kathryn, both of San Diego, California. He will be fondly remembered as Granddad by his six grandchildren. He will also be greatly missed by Kristine, his blessed significant other for the past couple of years.

The family would like to give special thanks to The Elizabeth Hospice, 24 Hour Home Care and Belmont Village, Cardiff for the terrific love and care they provided to Philip during his final weeks.

There was a celebration of life mass in honor of Philip on Friday, @ St. James Catholic Church, 625 S. Nardo Ave., Solana Beach, CA 92075. In case of interest in making a donation in remembrance of Philip, the family would ask you to consider making a donation to St. James — St. Leo Dental Clinic, 936 Genevieve St., Solana Beach, CA 92075. Just remember as you make a donation in his honor, Philip would remind you any chance he got that his name is spelled with only one “L”!

Thank you to Richard Turner for drawing our attention to the obituary of Philip on which this obituary is based.
