David Whitworth: [Heath 1963–1968]

Head of David Whitworth
David Whitworth

David Whitworth died peacefully at St David’s Hospice in Llandudno, North Wales on Saturday the , aged 69.

David was born in Halifax on the to Doreen and Bernard Whitworth of Lower Skircoat Green. He was brother to the late Michael Whitworth. David went to All Saints Infant School and then followed in his late brother’s footsteps, passing his eleven plus to attend Heath Grammar School.

David didn’t have a fondness for school, unlike his brother Michael, and would regularly cause trouble with other pupils and teachers alike — this has provided the family with a great source of entertainment years later whilst reading his old school reports. Having said that, David was an extremely hard-working, conscientious and competent individual and on leaving school he began working at Crossley Carpets as a photographer, a job he thoroughly enjoyed.

Once he left Crossley Carpets he then started working at The Royal Pub in Elland where he made many friends, but one in particular — the late Mick Driver. They became great friends over the years through a mutual love of darts and a pint.

In 1988 David married Vivienne and became stepfather to Lyndsay and Peter. A year later David and Vivienne welcomed another addition to the family — a daughter, Laura. By 1992 the family moved to Llandudno in North Wales. David worked at Comet for many years, followed by Allied Carpets, Working Links and most recently Supertemps. It was at Supertemps where he made friends with a great group of people whom he cared about very much.

David had a flair for working with customers and clients due to his great sense of humour, dry wit and charming nature as well as being extremely generous and kind.

Unfortunately, in 2019 David was diagnosed with liver cancer caused by liver cirrhosis. He fought bravely for two years with his sense of humour still intact until the very end.

David was a much-loved husband to Vivienne, a loving father to Lyndsay, Peter and Laura, stepfather to Jeremy and Timothy, grandfather to Kai and son to Doreen.

The funeral was held on Thursday the , 2 pm at Colwyn Bay Crematorium. Instead of flowers, donations may be made to St David’s Hospice.
